What's in it for me? Part 1. How would you explain the Gospel message to someone who asks you how will God sort out my mess?

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

PART 1

As we share the Gospel, we often find one question lurking just beneath the surface: “What's in it for me?" We live in a culture where entitlement is often encouraged, and this can influence the way people approach religion.

A simple answer might be: "You can experience peace, joy, and the presence of God, both now and forever." But many people are looking for something more immediate. They may respond: "I hear what you're saying, but my life is a mess right now. How does coming to God help me with my current circumstances?" This is a question every believer should be prepared to answer.

How would you explain the Gospel to someone who asked you that question? Do you have a plan, or would you simply try to find the words in the moment? Jesus told the disciples: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses..." (Acts 1:8).

One of the most effective ways to prepare is to write down your personal testimony. Keep it simple:

A brief description of your life before Christ (3 minutes).

The difference Jesus has made in your life (6 minutes).

Then rehearse it and ask the Holy Spirit to help you refine it.

As you prepare, also ask God to provide opportunities to share your story. Remember, not every conversation will produce an immediate response. Sometimes we plant a seed. Someone else waters it. Someone else sees the harvest. Our responsibility is simply to share the Good News, for so many are waiting to hear it.
